Women's Basketball Signs Ashley Stinson to Letter of Intent
Aug. 27, 2004
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's basketball team added another name to its 2004 signing class by inking 5-foot-9 forward Ashley Stinson (West Memphis, Ark.), who helped lead Cowley Country (Kan.) Community College to a 23-9 record and a spot in the Region IV Jayhawk Community College Conference Tournament last season. Stinson will join 5-foot-7 shooting guard Takina Alford (Griffin, Ga.) and 5-foot-10 shooting guard Edita Brbutovic (Sweden), who earlier signed with the Dolphins.
As a redshirt freshman in 2003-04, Stinson started 21-of-32 games at small forward for Cowley, averaging 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. In 2002-03, she began her collegiate career at Wabash Valley (Ill.) Community College, but missed the entire season due to knee surgery.
A 2002 graduate of West Memphis (Ark.) High School, Stinson was a three-year letterwinner for the Blue Devils and led the squad to a pair of 5A East Conference Championships as a junior and senior, and three second-place finishes in the state finals. She also earned two consecutive second-team all-conference and all-county honors in 2001 and 2002, along with a selection to the 5A East Conference All-Star Team as a senior. In club play, Stinson was a member of the Arkansas Kamikaze in 2002 and the Arkansas Mavericks in 2001.
The Dolphins open the 2004-05 season under the direction of first-year head coach Jill Dunn on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. with an exhibition game against Rollins College at Swisher Gymnasium.
