JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU women's basketball has signed 5-foot-6 point guard Crystal Ayers (Tampa, Fla.) of Okaloosa Walton Junior College to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period, first-year head coach Jill Dunn announced today. Ayers, who is currently playing her freshman season at Okaloosa Walton JC, is the first signee for the Dolphin program this season.

In her prep career, Ayers led Ridgewood High School to a 101-19 overall record and four consecutive district titles, averaging 18.4 points, 5.2 assists, 5.2 steals and 5.0 rebounds as a senior. She earned Sunshine Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year honors as a sophomore, junior and senior while also garnering Second-Team Class 4A All-State accolades in her final two seasons. Ayers, who was also named first-team all-city as a senior, currently holds nine school records at Ridgewood, including points in a game (42), steals in a game (12), career steals (457) and career assists (423).

"Our first focus is to sign the top players in the state of Florida and Crystal is certainly one of the elite players," Dunn said. "Crystal is a point guard who knows how to score. With a year of junior college experience, she will be prepared to step in and contribute for us immediately."

The Dolphins will next face South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Colonial Center.
