Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker at Campbell, 64-63

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - JU senior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) scored a career-high 25 points, while senior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) added 11 points and 12 rebounds, but Campbell's Letita Dickson hit three free throws with 0.3 seconds remaining to give the Lady Camels a 64-63 Atlantic Sun Conference win over the Dolphins, Saturday afternoon at Carter Gymnasium. Dickson was fouled while attempting a three pointer with under a second left in the contest. The Dolphins are now 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the A-Sun, while the Lady Camels improve to 2-2, 2-0 in league play.

Three consecutive free throws by Montz put the Dolphins ahead 61-58 but Campbell's Amber Graham converted on a pair of free throws to make it 61-60. After trading free throws to give the Dolphins a 63-61 lead, Dickson was fouled from behind the three-point line with less than a second remaining.

Montz finished the contest shooting 8-of-12 from the floor, including a career-high 5-of-7 from the three-point line, while also adding five assists and three steals. Jackson, who also finished with two blocks, has tallied at least 10 points in every game for the Dolphins this season. Junior forward Ashley Stinson (West Memphis, Ark.) added nine points and nine boards for the Dolphins.

Tomika Tomlinson led the Lady Camels with 16 points, while Kristin Vuckovich and Dickson each scored 10 points to lead the Campbell offense.

Tied at 19-19 with 2:52 remaining in the first half, Campbell went on a 10-4 run to take a 29-23 advantage. Alford's three-point basket with four seconds remaining pulled the Dolphins to within 29-26 at the half. JU opened the second half with a 5-0 run to take its first lead of the contest, 31-29. The Lady Camels responded with an 11-0 run to take their largest lead of the contest, 40-31. Montz led the Dolphins' comeback as JU used a 20-9 run to regain the lead, 51-49, with 5:33 remaining.

JU will next travel to Bethune-Cookman for a non-conference game against the Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m.
