Women's Basketball Falls to Eastern Illinois, 62-51

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Junior guard Sheena Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) finished with a team-high 12 points but the Jacksonville University women's basketball team fell to Eastern Illinois, 62-51, Monday evening in at Lantz Arena. The Dolphins fall to 3-5 on the year while the Panthers improve to 5-3.

Sophomore guard Jenaire Davis (Jacksonville/Wolfson/FCCJ) tallied a career-high 11 points while sophomore guard Nakina Alford (Griffin, Ga.) also finished with 11 points to round out the JU double-figure scorers. Senior forward Yolisha Jackson had her consecutive double-figure scoring games snapped at 13 after finishing with only four points in the contest. Junior forward Ashley Stinson (West Memphis, Ark.) recorded a team-high eight rebounds while senior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) finished with a season-high five steals. JU, who lead the Atlantic Sun Conference with an average of only 16.4 turnovers per game, finished with a season-high 25 turnovers.

Megan Casad led the Panthers with a game-high 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, 3-of-3 from behind the arc and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. EIU converted 21-of-28 free throws and finished 7-of-17 from beyond the three-point line.

In the first half, EIU jumped out to an early 13-4 by holding the Dolphins without a basket for 8:06. The two teams played even after the 8:34 mark with the Panther taking a 27-17 advantage in to the break. Both teams combined for 36 turnovers during the first during.

In the second half, JU opened with a 7-2 run to make it 29-26 at the 18:01 mark but the Panthers answered with an 8-0 run to make it 37-26 with 15:55 remaining. The Dolphins would only get as close as seven points (58-51) after a jumper by Montz with 21 seconds remaining but EIU converted on four free throws to end the game.

JU will take 10-days off before hosting Charleston Southern at Swisher Gymnasium on Friday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m.
