Women's Basketball Hosts Charleston Southern on Friday

After a 10-day break, the JU women's basketaball team will end its non-conference schedule at Swisher Gymnasium on Friday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. against Charleston Southern.

In the Last Meeting: Sheena Carpenter scored a team-high 16 points, including 14 in the second half, but the Dolphins fell to Charleston Southern, 80-61, on Nov. 29, 2003 in the CSU Field House. Rebecca Montz also added 12 points to the cause, but the Dolphins were forced into 26 turnovers in the game.

JU Ranks Well in the A-Sun: In the most recent Atlantic Sun Conference rankings, the Dolphins are currently first in turnover margin (+2.25) and free-throw percentage (.754), third in three-point field-goal percentage (.328) and offensive rebounds (15.12 rpg), fourth in scoring defense (62.9) and steals (9.12 spg) and fifth in rebounding defense (40.2 rpg) and three-point field goals made (5.38 tpg).

Individually, junior guard Nakina Alford ranks third in the conference in free-throw percentage (.947) and fifth in three-pointers (2.21 tpg)...senior guard Rebecca Montz is second in assist/turnover ratio (1.72), fourth in assists (3.88 apg) and three-point field goal percentage (.462) and 10th in field goal percentage (.448)...junior forward Ashley Stinson ranks sixth with 2.62 offensive rebounds per contest...senior forward Yolisha Jackson is eighth in defensive rebounds (4.62 rpg), ninth in free-throw percentage (.800) and tied for 10th in blocks (0.75 bpg)...sophomore forward Talia Johnson is also tied for 10th with 0.75 blocks per contest.

Sharing the wealth: Through eight games this season, the Dolphins have displayed a balanced offense in which any person could lead the team in scoring. For the first time in program history, JU has four players averaging at least 10.0 point per contest.

Junior guard Nakina Alford leads the squad with an average of 11.6 points per game, including an average of 13.5 ppg since becoming a starter on Dec. 4. Senior guard Rebecca Montz (11.5 ppg), senior forward Yolisha Jackson (11.4 ppg) and junior guard Sheena Carpenter (10.6 ppg) round out the top four for the Dolphins.

Taking Care of the Ball: JU is averaging 17.5 turnovers per contest, compared to 19.8 by its opponents. The Dolphins' turnover margin (+2.25) currently leads the Atlantic Sun Conference and its turnover average is the lowest in program history.
