Women's Basketball Drops 84-66 Contest to Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Junior forward Ashley Stinson (West Memphis, Ark.) finished with a team-high 18 points to lead four Dolphins in double figures but the Jacksonville University women's basketball team fell to Lipscomb, 59-51, Thursday evening in an Atlantic Sun Conference contest at Allen Arena. The Dolphins fall to 3-10 on the year and 0-6 in A-Sun play, while the Lady Bisons improve to 10-4, 7-1.
After trailing by 18 points at the 11:07 mark of the second half, JU used a 7-0 run to make it 61-50 with 10:02 remaining. The Lady Bisons answered with an 8-0 run to make it 69-50 (7:16) and take control of the contest as the Dolphins could get no closer than 15 points with 3:00 remaining.
Stinson shot 6-of-12 from the field while tallying six rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots. Senior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) finished with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, including a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Nakina Alford (Griffin, Ga.) tallied 11 points while junior guard Sheena Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) added 10 points and a season-high six assists. Junior forward Randa Blenden (Waco, Texas) also finished with career highs in points (7) and rebounds (10) to contribute to the squad. JU finished a contest with fewer turnovers than its opponent (16-15) for the 10th consecutive game and the 12th time in 13 contests.
Courtney Boynton and Penny Jones each led Lipscomb with 15 points. Lynn Roller (11) and Dana Carrigan (10) rounded out the Lady Bisons with double-digit points. Lipscomb shot 56.9 percent from the floor, including a 46.2 percent clip (6-13) from the three-point line.
In the first half, JU jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the opening minutes after a pair of three-pointers by Montz. Lipscomb answered with a 10-0 run to make it 12-6 at the 13:38 mark. JU made it a four-point lead (19-15) after a three-pointer by Stinson with 10:58 remaining but the Lady Bisons answered with a 13-2 run to make it 32-17 at the 6:30 mark. The Lady Bisons outscored the Dolphins 17-11 to head into the break with a 47-28 lead. Stinson finished with nine points and Montz added eight to lead the Dolphins while Jones led the Lady Bisons with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.
JU will complete its weekend at Belmont on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 3 p.m. EST.
