Women's Basketball Drops 68-49 Contest to UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) scored a team-high 11 points but the Dolphins could not overcome cold shooting first half as the Jacksonville University women's basketball team fell to UCF, 68-49, Monday evening at the UCF Arena. Junior guard Sheena Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) and sophomore guard Nakina Alford (Griffin, Ga.) each added 10 points to round out the JU scoring. The Dolphins fall to 4-15 on the year and 1-11 in A-Sun play, while the Golden Knights improve to 13-7, 11-2.

Junior forward Ashley Stinson (West Memphis, Ark.) finished with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds while Carpenter also added six rebounds and four assists on the evening. JU shot 29.9 percent from the floor, including a 5-for-18 effort (27.8) from behind the arc.

Shelby Weber and Celeste Hudson each finished with 12 points to lead the Golden Knights while Francine Houston and Keunta Miles each chipped in with 11 points. UCF shot 52.1 percent from the floor and held a 39-32 advantage on the boards.

After trailing 32-11 at the half, JU used a 6-2 run to make it 34-19 at the 17:11 mark but UCF answered with a 12-2 run to make it 46-21 (14:26) and never looked back.

In the first half, JU shot 15.3 percent from the field as UCF took a 32-11 lead into the break. Houston and Hudson each scored seven points to lead the Golden Knights as UCF shot 44.0 percent from the field. Alford led the Dolphins with four points.

JU will return to Swisher Gymnasium this weekend beginning with Belmont on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. before hosting Lipscomb on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2:30 p.m.
