Women's Basketball Drops 66-52 Contest to Lipscomb

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior guard Sheena Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) scored a game-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists but JU women's basketball fell to Lipscomb, 66-52, Saturday evening at Swisher Gymnasium. Freshman Edita Brbutovic (Jonkoping, Sweden) also added eight points to lead the Dolphin offense. JU (4-17, 1-13 A-Sun) has dropped five consecutive games while Lipscomb (11-10, 8-6 A-Sun) snapped a six-game slide.

With JU leading 33-28 at the 18:08 mark, Lipscomb used a 7-0 run to take a 35-33 lead with 16:55 remaining. Carpenter tied the contest at 35-35 with a layup but Lipscomb answered with a 14-4 run to make it 49-39 with 10:03 remaining. JU cut the lead to six (52-46) after a jumper by Carpenter at the 6:30 mark, but a 5-0 run by the Lady Bisons ended the Dolphins' final threat.

Carpenter led all scorers after going 10-for-20 from the floor while Brbutovic hit 4-of-8 field goals. JU managed only one three-point basket in the contest as the Dolphins finished 1-for-11. Lipscomb made 11-of-25 three-pointers for a 44.0 percentage.

Courtney Boynton led the Lady Bisons with 14 points while Lindsay Daly (13) and Catie Woods (12) rounded out the Lipscomb players in double figures.

In the first half, Carpenter scored 12 points and JU capitalized on eight Lipscomb turnovers to lead 29-24 at the break. The Dolphins shot 41.2 percent from the floor while holding the Lady Bisons to only a 26.5 percentage.

JU will next host Stetson on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
