Women's hoops ends exhibition season against Valdosta State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's basketball team will get their final tune up before the start of the regular season with an exhibition contest against Valdosta State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.

After leading the Dolphins to their most overall and conference wins and the program's first Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament bid since 2001, Jill Dunn's third team at JU features a deeper, more athletic lineup as the Dolphins added five freshmen in the offseason.

"This will be a good gauge for our team before we start the regular season," said Dunn. "These exhibition games are important because we can pin point areas of improvement in a competitive environment for our young players."

The Dolphins opened the exhibition season with a 76-47 win over Flagler College on Nov. 2 at Swisher Gymnasium. Junior forward Ashley Williams picked up where she left off last season, scoring a game-high 30 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard DaVina Hamilton rounded out the Dolphins with double figures by finishing with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field (2-of-4 from beyond the arc). The Dolphins won the rebounding battle by a small margin (43-41) but forced the Saints into 28 turnovers, while tallying 14 steals.

JU will open the regular season at Charleston Southern on Monday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m.
