Ashley Williams Named A-Sun Player of the Week

Junior forward Ashley Williams was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" after leading the Dolphins to a program-best 2-0 start to the 2006-07 season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Williams, who earned her third career weekly conference honor, averaged 24.5 points and six rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the floor in victories over Charleston Southern and South Carolina State last week.

"Our season is off to a great start and Ashley's play has a lot to do with it," said head coach Jill Dunn. "She had a tremendous game against Charleston Southern and a solid performance against South Carolina State. I hope this will be the beginning of many awards for her and our team this season."

Against Charleston Southern, Williams finished with a program-record 32 points on 14-of-18 shooting from the floor to go along with five rebounds and five steals to lead the Dolphins to a 105-66 victory on Nov. 13. Jacksonville also set five team records in the contest with points scored (105), first half points (53), second half points (52), field goals made (41) and margin of victory (39 points).

Against South Carolina State, Williams tallied a game- high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, despite being constantly triple teamed in the post. She also finished with seven rebounds in the contest.

JU (2-0) will be in search of its first three-game winning streak since 2000-01 as the Dolphins host UCF at Swisher Gymnasium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
