DaVina Hamilton named Co-A-Sun Player of the Week

Feb. 19, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore guard DaVina Hamilton was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Co-Player of the Week" after leading the Dolphins to two wins while also setting new program records with consecutive home wins (8), conference wins (10) and wins in a season (16), as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Hamilton, who earns the weekly honor for the first time in her career, averaged 17 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the floor (12-21) and 60 percent from the three-point line (3-5) in victories over East Tennessee State and Kennesaw State last week.

"DaVina's play on both ends of the court was a huge reason we were able to win two crucial games last week," said head coach Jill Dunn, who is one win away from setting the JU record for wins by a coach. "Hopefully this will give her a lot of confidence going into our final two weeks of conference play."

Against ETSU, Hamilton finished with 13 points, three assists, no turnovers and a game-high four steals, including the game-sealing steal in the final possession by the Lady Bucs, to lead the Dolphins to an 83-79 win.

Against Kennesaw State, Hamilton scored a career-high 21 points (including 17 in the second half) on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor and a career-best 3-of-4 from the three-point line to lead the squad to a 74-57 victory.

JU (16-8, 10-3) will take its quest for the top two seeds in the conference tournament to the road as the Dolphins face Mercer on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.
