Women's Basketball inks Cameo Kent to letter of intent

April 18, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's basketball team signed guard Cameo Kent of Jensen Beach High School to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Jill Dunn announced Wednesday.

Kent joins guard Janelle Grayson of North Atlanta High School, forward/center Lynsey Paschal of Sandy Creek High School and center Gabrielle Sermons of Open Bible Christian High School, who each joined the program in the fall.

Kent, a 5-foot-8 senior captain, was named Stuart and Palm Beach County "Player of the Year" after leading the Falcons to a 4A State Championship with an average of 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists while also shooting 30 percent from beyond the arc.

As a junior and sophomore, she helped lead the squad to consecutive Elite 8 finishes in the state tournament and was named second-team all-Treasure Lake Conference as a junior. In three years with the Falcons, Kent helped the school to a combined record of 75-15. A success in the classroom, Kent was also a member of the Honor Roll with a 3.4 GPA.

"Cameo will come in and help our program immediately because she will fit right into our style of play," said JU head coach Jill Dunn. "She is a bigger and stronger combo guard that will give other teams match up problems and is extremely athletic and has a lot of versatility to her game. Cameo comes from an excellent high school program and she knows how to win."

JU finished the 2006-07 season winning 16 of its last 19 games, including 15 of its last 18 Atlantic Sun Conference games, to finish with a program-record 21-9 record. The Dolphins also finished a program-best second in the A-Sun with a 14-3 record and earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
