Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at Elon/Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - Senior Karin Haggard (Gothenburg, Sweden) shot a 15-over-par 159 to finish 17th out of 108 golfers as the Dolphins placed seventh out of 20 teams at the Elon/Sea Trail Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, N.C. JU shot a 653 (324-329) on the par-72, 6,079-yard Willard Byrd Course.

Western Carolina fired a 610 (297-313) to win the event by 12 strokes over Longwood University. Host Elon (637) finished third, followed by Winthrop (638) and Gardner-Webb (641) to round out the top five. Brandy Andersen of Western Carolina shot a four-over-par 148 (71-77) to edge Bethune-Cookman's Maria Dunne (74-75=149) and Western Carolina's Bianca Melone (73-76=149) for individual medallist honors.

Other top finishers for the Dolphins were sophomore Ashley Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) and senior Winnie Dorminey (Jacksonville/Wolfson), both of whom shot a 164 for the tournament.

The Dolphins return to action at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate in Howey in the Hills, Fla., Oct. 19-21.
