May 4, 2004
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU sophomore golfer Ashley Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) has earned Second-Team Atlantic Sun All-Conference honors, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Grier, who was tabbed A-Sun Freshman of the Year in 2003, led the Dolphins with a 79.0 stroke average this season, while posting five top-10 finishes and leading JU in 5-of-9 tournaments. She capped her sophomore campaign with a seventh-place finish at the A-Sun Championship as the Dolphins rallied to finish fifth out of 11 teams. Florida Atlantic's Natalia Navarro was voted the Atlantic Sun Women's Golfer of the Year, while Campbell's Alejandra Shaw was named A-Sun Freshman of the Year.
Grier's top finish was a tie for second at the Coca-Cola Intercollegiate after shooting an 8-over 152, while also placing fourth at the UCF Invitational and the Butler North/South Intercollegiate. She saved her best for last, firing a season-low 72 in the second round of the Atlantic Sun Championship to rally from a slow start to finish seventh with a 226, just two shots back of Shaw.
Navarro finished in the top-four in all but one event during the season, including tournament championships at the Mission Inn Fall Classic and the FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational. Navarro, who finished the season with a 75.15 stroke average, tied for fourth at the A-Sun Championship after carding a 7-over 223. Shaw had a season-best sixth-place finish at the A-Sun Championship and finished the season with a 79.5 stroke average.
Campbell's John Crooks was voted A-Sun Coach of the Year after leading the Camels to the NCAA Regionals for the sixth time in seven years.
