May. 2, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's golf team signed Alex Andersen (Orange Park, Fla.) of Fleming Island High School to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Jim Taketa announced today. Andersen, a First-Team All-First Coast honoree the past two seasons, becomes the first signee for Taketa in 2005.

Andersen earned All-St. John's River Conference honors after averaging 36 strokes per nine holes this spring and leading the Golden Eagles to the district title and a third-place finish in the region this season. Individually, she won the Clay County Championship the past two years and was the district champion as a junior.

Andersen also won medalist honors in seven 2004 Florida High School Athletic Association events. She is the daughter of Gary Andersen, a two-year letterwinner in golf at the U.S. Naval Academy. Andersen also finished first at the Caribbean Junior National Championship in both 2002 and 2003.
