Women's golf takes sixth at Bethune-Cookman Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Led by a strong second round, the Jacksonville women's golf team finishes in sixth place at the spring season opening Bethune-Cookman Invitational on the par-72 Indigo Lakes Golf Course.

JU cared a 317 in the final round, the third best score of the day, to finish in sixth among the 11 teams participating.

The strong final round was led by three Dolphins firing sub-80 rounds. Jessica Green carded a six-over par 78 to finish in a tie for 11th to earn the best finish for a Dolphin.

Daytona Beach Community College won the event with a two-round total of 617, led by individual champion Rachel Edwards, who posted rounds of 74 and 77 to win the title by one at seven-over par.

"This was a good event to get the spring started," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "Now we've got something to measure our performance by and build off as the season progresses."

Green opened the tournament with an 81 and coupled with her final round she posted a total of 159, 15-over par.

Therese Karlsson fired the low round of the tournament for JU, recovering from an opening round 86 to shoot a four-over par 76 to tie for 16th at 162. Alexandra Anderson carded a seven-over par 79 which came after an 85 in the first round to tie for 20th at 164.

Camilla Loeveid tied for 24th with rounds of 82 and 84 while Heather Fudge tied for 28th after shooting 83 and 85.

The Dolphins are back in action again March 7-8 at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
