Jacksonville Rallies Past Georgia Southern, 2-1
October 8, 1999
Statesboro, Ga. - Sophomore Trine Riis Groven headed in the game-winner with 5:33 to play, capping a second-half rally that lifted Jacksonville University to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Georgia Southern in women's soccer action Friday. The Dolphins improved to 6-5 with the victory, while the Eagles fall back to .500 at 6-6.
Georgia Southern had taken a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Robin Thirsk captured a loose ball near the top of the penalty area and placed a shot just under the crossbar. The lead stayed that way until the 73:56 mark when junior Dianne Scott took a pass from junior Stine Kloster in the midfield and converted on her second goal of the season. Groven's game-winner was set up by a corner from junior Marit Foss to freshman Caroline Owen, who headed it back across the goal face.
Georgia Southern returns to action Monday against Charleston Southern in a game originally scheduled for September 15, but postponed by Hurricane Floyd. The Dolphins are now off until Tuesday, October 12th when they host the University of Central Florida in a critical conference game at 1:00 P.M.
