Dolphins Earn Player-of-the-Week Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University received TAAC Soccer Player-of-the-Week honors Monday when the league announced sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Cancio (Hialeah, Fla.) won the women's defensive honor and sophomore midfielder Michael Blackburn (Arlington, Texas) earned the offensive honor on the men's side.

Cancio recorded her 5th shutout of the season versus Samford and allowed one goal against Jacksonville State last week to lead the Dolphins to the No. 1 seed in the upcoming TAAC Championship. She also recorded 10 saves in 180 minutes in goals. Cancio is third in the TAAC in goals against average (1.07) in 1258 minutes in goal.

Blackburn scored a goal in each of JU's three matches last week. He also recorded one assist against Campbell. In the TAAC, he is tied for sixth in goals (6), assists (4) and points (16).

The women's team returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 25 when they travel to Tampa, Fla., for their final regular-season match versus South Florida at 7 p.m. The men's team travels to DeLand, Fla., on Tuesday, Oct. 24 to face TAAC foe Stetson at 4 p.m.
