Dec. 6, 2000
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University women's soccer standouts Marit Foss (Hamresanden, Norway) and Trine Riis Groven (Skien, Norway) earned All-Southeast Region honors as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
Foss, a senior midfielder, earned second-team all-region honors, while junior forward Riis Groven was named to the third team. Both players earned first-team All-Trans America Athletic Conference honors at the conclusion of the regular season, and Riis Groven was named TAAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Foss, who earned third-team Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Regional as a junior, led the team, TAAC and nation in assists (28) and assists per game (1.27 APG) and helped JU advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. She tied an NCAA single-match record with six assists vs. Alabama A&M, breaking her own school record of three against Flagler on Oct. 14, 1998.
Foss led the TAAC with 44 points, and ranked tied for ninth in the league with seven goals.
Riis Groven, meanwhile, lead the team and tied Florida Atlantic's Lisanne Peart for the TAAC lead in goals with 17. She also finished just three points behind Foss in points per game with 41, which ranked second in the league. Her seven assists were second on the squad and ranked tied for sixth in the TAAC.
Foss and Riis Groven were the only players from the TAAC to make the all-regional team and were two of 12 players from Florida-based teams to earn the honor.
