Women's Soccer Gains Revenge In Spring Competition

Feb. 25, 2001

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The JU women's soccer team kicked off its spring competition in a positive way with revenge wins over South Florida and Florida State Sunday afternoon at the Florida State Spring Classic at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

The Dolphins earned a pair of 1-0 victories over the two clubs as South Florida and host Florida State were the only two clubs to defeat JU during its dream 2000 season which saw the Dolphins win their first ever TAAC Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

"I'm very proud and happy that we started the 2001 campaign on a positive note," head coach Mike Johnson said. "The victories will give us a lot of confidence as we build toward next year and look to repeat as TAAC Champs."

Junior goalkeeper Kristen Kirsch earned both shutout victories while senior forward Trine Riis Groven had the goal against USF and Erin Bitterli scored the Dolphins' goal against the Lady Seminoles.

The Dolphins continue their spring drills against outside competition on March 17 when they travel to DeLand, Fla., to participate in the Stetson Tournament.
