Women's Soccer Picked Third In 2002 A-Sun Preseason Poll

Aug. 14, 2002

The JU women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the 2002 Atlantic Sun Conference preseason poll voted on by the A-Sun head coaches, the league office announced today. UCF, the defending regular season and tournament champions, was picked to repeat as regular season and tournament champs.

The Dolphins return eight starters, including last year's Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year Michaelene Cadiz, from a team that finished 9-9-1 (6-3-1 A-Sun), despite being ravaged with injuries.

Last year's tournament runner-up, Florida Atlantic, was picked to finish second, followed by Jacksonville, Campbell, Georgia State, Samford, Jacksonville State, Mercer, Gardner-Webb, Troy State, Stetson and Belmont, respectively.

JU opens the season on August 30 at the UCF/Kappa Invitational in Orlando against George Washington starting at 4:00 p.m. The Dolphins first home game is September 8 against South Florida at 2:00 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex on the JU campus.
