JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team got a pair of goals from freshman forward Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) and held off a late rally to defeat Elon University, 2-1, Friday afternoon in the second game of the JU-Brine/Dennis Viollet Memorial Classic at the Ashley Sports Complex for its third-straight victory. The Dolphins are now 5-0 in the tournament they have hosted since 2000.

In the first half, Vanessa Illanes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) sent a sharp pass up the middle and Inge Heiremans (Tremelo, Belgium) flicked the ball out right to a sprinting Aas-Hanssen, who made a couple of nifty moves to beat Phoenix goalkeeper Kara Zagol, placing the ball in the empty net for the 1-0 JU lead.

The Dolphins were able to extend their lead as Aas-Hanssen struck again in the 59th minute taking a through ball from freshman Regan Rone (South Amboy, N.J.) and with Phoenix goalkeeper Beth O'Connor coming out to challenge, Aas-Hanssen made one move to the right and scored on an empty net to put JU ahead 2-0.

Elon got on the board in the 65th minute with Kate Schabo lofting a perfect shot inside the far post to cut the Dolphins lead in half, 2-1. Dolphins goalkeeper Stephanie Fowler (Seffner, Fla.) recorded seven saves.

In game one, Rachel Thjomoe scored in the 57th minute on the assist from Bulls goalkeeper Breck Bankester, who also made four saves, to give South Florida the 1-0 victory over Florida International.

The Dolphins return to action on Sunday in game four of the 2002 JU-Brine/Dennis Viollet Memorial Classic taking on Florida International at 2 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex. Elon and South Florida square off in game three of the tournament at 12 p.m.
