Women's Basketball increases support for breast cancer awareness

Oct. 10, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's basketball team will not only continue its active stance in the fight against breast cancer in 2007 but they are increasing its efforts this year beginning with the annual "Lick a Lid" event on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the JU cafeteria and Nellie's on campus.

This will mark the fourth consecutive year in which the women's basketball program has participated in the event but the Dolphins will also be selling limited edition T-shirts for $10, which will also benefit the fight against breast cancer.

"We are excited to kick off our fourth-annual Lick a Lid campaign," said JU women's basketball head coach Jill Dunn. "We are very proud to help sponsor and promote breast cancer awareness. Along with our normal table at the cafeteria, we will continue our efforts throughout the week and during our home games this season. Any support people can give towards this cause, and helping us reach our goal, would be greatly appreciated."

For a dollar, participants can purchase a single cup of Yoplait yogurt and lick the lid to support research for breast cancer. For each lid that is licked, the Susan G. Komen Foundation will match 10 cents for the same donation. The national goal is to sell 1.5 million lids and JU will do their best to add to that number with a goal of 250 lids this week.

The Dolphins will also sell yogurt donations and T-shirts at home games this week for volleyball's match against Belmont on Friday at 7 p.m., and football's Homecoming game against Morehead State on Saturday at Noon.
