Oct. 11, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - While the rest of the campus is celebrating Homecoming this weekend, the JU basketball teams will officially starting their seasons with their first practice.

Along with the first official practices, the season ticket kicks into gear. Season tickets in the general admission section are available for $110 while those with the hospitality package are $190.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting the JU Ticket Office at (904) 256-7407.

The men's basketball team will step onto the practice floor for the first time on Friday at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Jacksonville has three starters returning, all former Atlantic Sun Conference all-freshman team honorees, along with a host of newcomers that are expected to contribute immediately.

Last season, the Dolphins had the biggest turnaround in the country, improving by 14 wins and finished third in the league, the highest finish for JU since joining in 1999.

"I'm ready to get out on the floor and start working with the guys," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "We've got a lot of work in front of us before we start the season, but everyone is excited and ready to go."

The women's team opens practice on Friday as well, led by A-Sun preseason "Player of the Year" Ashley Williams and preseason all-conference selection Virginia Gregoire.

The Dolphins return all five starters from last year's team that reached the 20-win plateau for the first time in school history.

"This is always an exciting team of year for us and I'm ready to get on the floor and see where we are," said JU women's head coach Jill Dunn. "We have some lofty goals set for this year and for us to be the team we're capable of being, we're going to have to come out working hard from the start."

The season tips off on Nov. 2 with the first exhibition games - a doubleheader at Swisher Gymnasium with the women set to start at 5 p.m. and the men to follow at 7 p.m.
