Ranveig Aas-Hanssen Named A-Sun Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sept. 2, 2003
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU sophomore forward Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) was named Atlantic Sun women's soccer offensive player of the week, the conference office announced on Monday. Aas-Hanssen led the Dolphins with three goals and an assist in two games last week, and leads the A-Sun in points (7) and goals (3).
Aas-Hanssen scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and dished out an assist as the Dolphins defeated Florida International, 4-0, in their season opener last Friday. She scored the game-winner in the 13th minute when she converted on a header, then added another goal early in the second half as she took a pass inside the box and put the ball away from two yards out to seal the victory.
She set a new career-high for points in a single match (5) and marked the second time in her career that she scored two goals in a match. Aas-Hanssen finished the week by scoring the lone goal in a 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Monday. She earned her first player of the week honor last season and was also named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.
The Dolphins face a tough stretch as they take on two nationally ranked teams in the next two weeks, beginning with Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 5:00 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex. JU then hosts Manhattan on Friday, Sept. 12 at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to Gainesville to take on No. 12 Florida on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 2:00 p.m.
