TAMPA, Fla. - Sophomore forward Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) tied the match at 1-1 late in the first half before USF answered with a goal in the 69th minute to defeat the Dolphins, 2-1, Tuesday night in Tampa. Aas-Hanssen's goal, which was her 17th of the season, ties a single season school record set by Trine Riis-Groven in 2000. Sophomore Amber Otto (DeLand, Fla.) made her second career start in goal and collected five saves for JU, which falls to 5-7 on the season.
USF (5-4-1) got on the board in the 38th minute as Mindy Mulvihill scored an unassisted goal, which was off a deflection from a save made by Otto, giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Aas-Hanssen tied the match when she took a ball that was deflected off the crossbar and scored on the play.
The lone goal of the second half came when a Dolphin defender deflected the ball into their own net, which proved to be the game-winner for the Bulls.
USF held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks, while JU led in shots on goal, 10-7. Breck Bankester made eight saves for the Bulls.
The Dolphins return to action when they host Troy State in an A-Sun match on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4:00 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.
