DELAND, Fla. - Freshman forward Jenny Borschel (St. Petersburg, Fla.) scored late in the second half for JU to tie the match at 1-1, but Stetson responded with a pair of late goals to defeat the Dolphins, 3-1, Wednesday in A-Sun women's soccer action. With the win, Stetson improves to 10-6-2, 4-4-2 in the A-Sun, and clinches the sixth and final spot in the 2003 A-Sun Tournament. The Dolphins, who have appeared in four of the last five A-Sun Championship matches, finish the season at 6-12, 4-6 in the A-Sun.
Stetson midfielder Alicia Briggs scored the game-winner in the 80th minute when she received a ball from Emma Astrom and netted a goal from 10 yards out, giving the Hatters a 2-1 lead. Gina Guillem added a late goal for the Hatters in the 85th minute when she took a loose ball in the box off a corner kick by Carrie Lorenz and scored on the play.
The match was scoreless until the 56th minute when Stetson midfielder Jennifer Colley took a pass from Briggs and scored from five yards out to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead. Borschel tied the match for JU with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute, firing a shot from 15 yards out that landed in the left corner of the net.
Sophomore Amber Otto (DeLand, Fla.) made three saves for the Dolphins, while April Eilering stopped seven shots for Stetson.
