Women's Soccer and North Florida Play to Scoreless Tie in Exhibition

Aug. 20, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie against cross-town rival North Florida in an exhibition match played at Patton Park. The match marked the debut of head coach Chris Kouns on the Dolphins' bench.

The first half proved to be a defensive struggle with neither team making a shot during the period. Things changed quickly in the second half, as the Ospreys fired the first shot of the match high in the 47th minute. JU took their first shot in the 49th minute and threatened late in the half. Sophomore Hilary Bricken (Ft. Myers, Fla.) fired a shot towards goal in the 87th minute, but UNF goalkeeper Amanda Parker deflected the shot away from goal. Freshman Malin Hultqvist (Vetlanda, Sweden) took another shot on the same possession, but the Ospreys' defenders stopped the shot and cleared the ball from the zone, ending the Dolphin threat.

JU opens regular season play next Friday, Aug. 27 against Northeastern at 5:30 p.m. in the FAU Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
