Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Northeastern in Season Opener

Aug. 27, 2004

BOCA RATON, Fla. - A scoreless first half turned into a Northeastern scoring flurry as the Huskies scored three goals in 18 minutes to defeat Jacksonville University women's soccer team Friday afternoon at the FAU Kick-Off Classic in first match of the season for both squads.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle, as only four shots were fired in the period. The scoreless tie was broken in the 50th minute, as Northeastern's Kristen Kowalik scored off a cross from Jessica Pfiefer to give the Huskies the lead. Eight minutes later, NU scored again when Diana Mastromauro beat sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Kmiotek (Tampa, Fla.) for the Huskies' second goal. Northeastern ended the scoring in the 68th minute, when Amanda Sesto found the net, with Kowalik getting credit for the assist.

The Dolphins were outshot by Northeastern, 15-3. Kmiotek stopped four shots in her first game for the Dolphins, which also served as the debut for JU head coach Chris Kouns.

JU takes on Louisiana-Lafayette in the FAU Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla., Sunday at 12 noon.
