Nov. 8, 2004
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU freshman defender Daniela Davila (Valrico, Fla.) was named to the 2004 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team after leading sixth-seeded Jacksonville to a 3-2 upset victory over Florida Atlantic in the opening round of the tournament on Nov. 4th at Campbell University. Davila is the 18th Dolphin to receive the honor.
Davila assisted on the game-tying goal against the Owls, serving a corner kick into the penalty box where sophomore Jenny Borschel (St. Petersburg, Fla.) headed in the goal. Just 45 seconds later, Davila blasted in the first gamewinner of her career off a free kick, giving the Dolphins the 3-2 win.
The Dolphins finished the year 5-9-5 overall and set a school record for ties in a season. JU qualified for their sixth Atlantic Sun Championship in seven years after compiling a 3-3-4 record in conference play, which included three ties to end the season. Forwards Jess Newport (Forked River, N.J.) and Stephanie Elgie (London, Ontario) both were named to the 2004 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team, the fifth and sixth Dolphins to receive the honor.
