Women's Soccer Picked Fifth in A-Sun Preseason Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Sun conference, according to the preseason coaches poll released by the league office today. Last season, the Dolphins finished 5-9-5 and advanced to the second round of the A-Sun tournament under first-year head coach Chris Kouns.

Florida Atlantic, who was ousted by the Dolphins last season in the A-Sun tournament, was selected first with 118 points. Gardner-Webb took the second spot with 94 points, while Campbell, Kennesaw State and the Dolphins rounded out the top five. Stetson, Mercer, East Tennessee State, North Florida, Belmont and Lipscomb rounded out the rest of the field.

The Dolphins return nine starters, including junior midfielder, sophomore forward Stephanie Elgie (London, Ontario) and junior midfielder Hilary Bricken (Ft. Myers, Fla.). Elgie was a member of the 2004 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team and tied for the team lead in goals with five.

JU opens the 2005 season against Pittsburgh on Friday, August 26, at the Marshall Invitational in Marshall, West Virginia.
