Women's Soccer to Host 2nd Annual Kick Out Cancer Event

Aug. 18, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - - The Jacksonville University women's soccer program is once again teaming up with the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) for the second annual "Kick Out Cancer" during the JU/Best Western Invitational women's soccer tournament on Friday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The Kick Out Cancer event is a fundraising effort benefiting the LAF's Peloton Project, the foundation's grassroots fundraising and outreach program. Last season, the Dolphins helped raise $1,000 for the Lance Armstrong Peloton Project and gained local television coverage on Good Morning Jacksonville. This year the Dolphins hope to play their part in the 2005 Lance Armstrong Foundation's effort to reach a total of $7,000,000 in donations to accompany Lance Armstrong and his seventh, and final, Tour De France.

The tournament will start on Friday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. with Stetson taking on Coastal Carolina, while the Dolphins take on Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 11, with Stetson playing Eastern Kentucky at 11 a.m. The Dolphins will play Coastal Carolina in the finale at 1 p.m.

Fans attending the tournament will be able to receive a yellow "Live Strong" bracelet, like the one Lance Armstrong wore while winning the Tour de France, with a donation of $1 or more. Also there will be a silent auction on where people can bid on autographed items from Lance Armstrong, Arnold Palmer, NASCAR, NFL and PGA professionals with proceeds benefiting the LAF.
