Oct. 25, 2005
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - This rivalry will now have more meaning. The Jacksonville women's soccer team will face UNF tomorrow at Patton Park in Jacksonville, Fla. at 7 p.m. to begin the inaugural A-Sun matches between the two schools. The Dolphins are currently battling for one of the last two spots into the Atlantic Sun conference tournament.
The top six teams in the A-Sun make the postseason tournament. Currently the Dolphins (6-8-3, 3-4-1 A-Sun) sit in seventh place in the Atlantic Sun standings. Kennesaw State is currently second, while the Ospreys (7-6-2, 5-3-1 A-Sun) are fourth place in the standings but both teams are ineligible for the A-Sun tournament because of their switch to Division I this season. Florida Atlantic, Campbell, East Tennessee State and Gardner-Webb have already secured bids to the A-Sun tournament in Boiling Springs, N.C. on Nov. 3-5. The Dolphins are battling with Mercer (6-11-1, 3-5-1 A-Sun), Belmont (3-11-1, 2-6-1 A-Sun) and Stetson (6-11-0, 2-6-0 A-Sun) for the remaining two spots in the tournament.
The Dolphins are looking to get back to their winning ways after dropping road games to Campbell and Gardner-Webb over the weekend. Freshman Keri Zwikker will be counted on for most of the Dolphins offensive attack after scoring nine goals in three out of the last five games.
The Ospreys come into to Wednesday's game after losing to Campbell, 1-0, on Saturday.
Last meeting between the two programs in the regular season, came on September 22, 1998. The Dolphins picked up a 2-0 victory over the Ospreys at the UNF Soccer stadium.
