Women's soccer begins 2006 season against #18 Georgia

Aug. 24, 2006

ATHENS, Ga.- - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team will have a big test on Friday as they open the 2006 season in Athens, Ga. against 18th ranked Georgia at 7 p.m.

"This is a big challenge for us to open the season," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "Georgia is a good team that is NCAA tournament tested. We have to stick to our game plan so that we can stay competitive."

The Dolphins return all starters in 2006 that helped them earn their second consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference semifinal berth last season. Among the returners are sophomore forwards Keri Zwikker and Michelle Lavine.

Zwikker was named 2005 A-Sun "Freshman of the Year" after leading the conference with 17 goals, while Lavine earned a spot on the Jewish Sports Review All-America team with a team-high 10 assists.

"Our team is very young this season," said Kouns. "The great thing about that is we can build a good core group through playing teams like Georgia. This will allow us to be a stronger team when we play in conference to achieve our goal of winning A-Sun title."
