Women's soccer readies for tough weekend
Sept. 7, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team played three games in five days last week, things aren't going to get any easier the two games this weekend.
The Dolphins (2-2) start the week against Georgia Southern at the Ashley Sports Complex on Friday at 6 p.m. On Sunday, they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to face Florida at 1:30 p.m.
"Obliviously, we are excited to play Georgia Southern and Florida," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "If we play well on Friday, we can get back on the right track against Georgia Southern. When we play Florida, it will give us a chance to measure ourselves at the level we want to be at. Hopefully, we can compete well like we did at Georgia so it will help us improve for our conference schedule."
Last week, the Dolphins kept the fans on the edge of their seats with last second victories against Florida International and LaSalle (Pa.). Sophomore Keri Zwikker scored a goal with three seconds remaining in the game to down the Golden Panthers, 1-0, on Aug. 30. Angela Hulse tapped in the game-winner in overtime to break a scoreless tie with the Explorers at Patton Park.
Senior goalie Michelle Kmiotek tallied 21 saves and two shutouts in three games to earn Atlantic Sun Defensive "Player of the Week" accolades for the Dolphins.
