Women's soccer falls to #24 Florida, 7-0
Sept. 10, 2006
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team was defeated by #24 Florida, 7-0, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.
"I'm very disappointed in the way we played today," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "Unfortunately with our young team, we have no leadership right now. We are fine when things are going well, but no one steps up when things bad."
The Gators (4-2-1) scored three first-half goals to help earn the victory. Forward Sara Bishop scored three goals to lead all Gators players. Angela Napolitano, Liz Ruberry, Ameera Abdulla and Ananda O'Neal each tallied a goal in the game.
Sophomore Keri Zwikker led the Dolphins (3-3) with three shots, while Jenny Borschel also added a shot in the game. Senior goalie Michelle Kmiotek recorded seven saves between the posts during the match.
"Keri did well for us up top today," said Kouns. "We only had three big defensive mistakes that hurt us in the first half. In the second half, we had no midfield. We are desperately seeking a leader in the midfield and an over team general. We need both of these to help us make the conference tournament."
The Dolphins play again on Friday as they host the third annual Kick out Cancer Soccer Tournament at the Ashley Sports Complex. They open the tournament with Elon at 7 p.m.
