Katie Orr named A-Sun Defensive "Player of the Week"
Sept. 18, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore defender Katie Orr was named Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive "Player of the Week" after helping the Jacksonville University women's soccer team to a pair of wins at the third-annual Kick Our Cancer Soccer Tournament over the weekend.
"I could not be more proud of Katie getting this honor," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "Katie is an integral part of our back line, which consists of four underclassmen, and this week she has been given the honor of representing the unit.
"Katie has worked very hard this off season to try and take over the vacancy Amber Otto's graduation left in our back line. To this point, I am extremely pleased with her progress."
Orr led the Dolphin defense to victories over Elon and Maryland-Baltimore County in the tournament. She helped organized the back four to turn in their fourth shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the Retrievers on Sept. 17.
Orr also shut out the reigning American East Conference "Player of the Week', Jessica Young, after she scored her league-leading 10th goal of the season against Stetson on Friday night.
The Dolphins open their conference schedule at home on Friday against cross-town rival North Florida at 7 p.m. Both teams will also look to gain some early points in the standings in the Second-Annual SunTrust River City Rumble.
