Oct. 16, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Michelle Kmiotek was named Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive "Player of the Week" for the second time this season after posting shutouts against Lipscomb and Belmont last week in Nashville, Tenn.
Kmiotek made seven saves to help the Dolphins (9-6, 4-3 A-Sun) defeat Lipscomb, 1-0, on Oct. 12. She made four saves in their 1-0 win over Belmont to help the Dolphins pick up their fourth consecutive shutout.
"Kmiotek has been a very steady influence for us this season," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "We are pleased with the team's recent play as a strong defensive unit because it has enabled Michelle to be in situations where she could be successful. If you take out the five games we played poorly in, she has eight shutouts and just three goals allowed in the other 11 games of the season. That is much more indicative of the way she's played this year."
Against the Bisions, Kmiotek became the program's new all-time leader against in saves (287), surpassing Renay Schock's mark of 277 set in 1997. Her career mark also ranks ninth on the all-time list in the A-Sun.
For the season, she has a career-best eight shutouts, which is a JU record and is 10th all-time on the single-season list in the A-Sun. Her 17 career shutouts is tied for ninth all-time in conference history.
Kmiotek has made 287 career saves to rank ninth on the all-time list in the A-Sun.
The Dolphins are in search of their third consecutive A-Sun tournament berth on Thursday as they face Mercer at the Ashley Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
