Women Soccer's 2007 recruiting class ranks nationally
May 1, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - SoccerBuzz magazine feels the JU women's soccer team has what it takes to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference Champions after ranking the Dolphins' 2007 recruiting class first in the conference, as announced today by the website.
The Dolphins, who won the 2006 A-Sun Tournament, were picked ahead of Campbell, while conference newcomer Florida Gulf Coast was selected at third. Belmont, Mercer and East Tennessee State rounded out the top six. A-Sun tournament host Kennesaw State was ranked seventh, while USC-Upstate, Gardner-Webb and Lipcomb made up the rest of the poll.
"We are very pleased that our work this off season has been recognized by SoccerBuzz magazine," said JU head coach Chris Kouns. "We try very hard to offer a glimpse of our entire program to potential recruits and many thanks go out to assistant coach Lisa Stoia and in the recruiting process."
Among the recruits set to join the Dolphins in a couple of months is Tamara Cormier (Coquitlam, British Columbia), Devon Dowell (Vienna, Virginia), Liz Fink (Cumming, Ga.), Emme Graham (Marietta, Ga.), Liza Grimsgaard (Eatontown, N.J.) and Reba Stott (Tallahassee, Fla.).
The six student-athletes will look to add to the Dolphins' 2006 success that posted their first double-digit win total since 2002 en route to earning the school's second NCAA Tournament berth.
"Although, we are honored by our recognition, we understand all too well that this recognition is just a small part of a much bigger picture in 2007," Kouns said. "We hope to easily integrate the newcomers into our current team, keep our fingers crossed that we can stay healthy for the year and will take any luck that can come our way as we work for another A-Sun Championship. Ultimately what happens in November will far outweigh the immediate gratification of April honors."
