Feb. 23, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU junior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after going 2-0 with a 1.38 earned run average last week in 13.0 innings of work, including wins over No. 11 Florida State and conference-foe Gardner-Webb. It's the first weekly honor for the Dolphins, who are 7-8 (1-1 A-Sun) entering this weekend's tournament at the University of Florida.

Bell threw a complete-game three-hitter against the Seminoles, allowing just one run and striking out one. She followed that performance with a two-hitter against Gardner-Webb, striking out three with just one walk in the 10-1 JU victory. For the season, Bell has evened her record at 3-3 with 18 strikeouts.

JU returns to action on Friday against Gardner-Webb in the first round of the University of Florida Invitational in Gainesville at 10 a.m. The Dolphins also play Florida at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
