Softball Falls To Host UNLV, 8-1, at UNLV Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Kacey Yourous (Radcliffe, Ky.) went 3-for4 with two doubles and Ashley Houston (Glen St. Mary, Fla.) had an RBI single, but JU left 10 runners on base and committed four errors in an 8-1 loss to host UNLV Saturday afternoon at the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas. Junior Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) also had a hit for JU and recorded a school-record eight putouts in left field. Dolphin starter Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) was forced to leave the game in the first inning with back troubles after allowing one run on two hits. JU (9-20) will play Southern Utah on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon to complete the tournament.

UNLV (15-14) busted the game open with four runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Rebels added a pair of runs in the sixth to make it an 8-0 game, but the Dolphins scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth when Houston drove home Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) with a single to right. Cadarette singled to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on a pair of walks and a groundout.
