Softball Splits Doubleheader With FAMU, 1-0 and 4-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) hit her ninth triple of the season, while sophomore righthander Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.) threw a complete-game five-hitter as JU split a doubleheader with Florida A&M, 1-0 and 4-2, Wednesday night at the JU Softball Complex. The Dolphins (12-27, 2-4 A-Sun) won game one on an eight strikeout performance by Dobson. Korcak hit her fifth triple in 10 games to help contribute to the JU victory. The Rattlers (19-11, 5-1 MEAC) won game two, 4-2, pounding out 11 hits.

Sophomore catcher Janine Palumbo (Clearwater, Fla.) walked in the fifth inning of game one with the score deadlocked at zero. Korcak followed with triple off Rattler pitcher Danielle Brown to right center field scoring Palumbo from first. Dobson would allow only two hits in the final two innings to help seal the 1-0 victory.

The Rattlers won game two, 4-2, by out hitting the Dolphins, 11-to-2. Shortstop Kelly Gordon led FAMU with three hits. JU would score two runs in the fourth inning from three FAMU errors. Senior centerfielder Monica McGee (Starke, Fla.) lead JU with two hits in the second game. Freshman righthander Katie Buell (Alpharetta, Ga.) suffered the loss in game two, despite allowing just two runs on seven hits.

JU returns to the road for 12 straight games starting Friday March 26 in Atlanta, with a doubleheader against Georgia State at 5:00 p.m.
