Softball Splits Doubleheader With Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Sophomore righthander Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla) gave up one run on three hits, while striking out eight and senior shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla ) went 3-for-4 with a triple and two run scored as JU beat Campbell, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the second game of a doubleheader at Eakes Athletic Complex in Buies Creek, N.C. The Fighting Camels (17-23, 4-6 A-Sun) won the first game, 1-0, behind the complete-game effort of Lexi Myers, who allowed no runs on four hits and struck out five. The Dolphins (15-32, 4-8 A-Sun) has split seven of the 10 doubleheaders they played this season.
JU scored two runs in the first inning of the second game. Korcak lead off the inning with her 11th triple of the season to right center field. Senior center fielder Monica McGee (Starke, Fla.) reached on an error by Campbell first baseman Laraine Fraijo. McGee advanced to second on a ground out by junior first baseman Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood). Next senior third baseman Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) hit a rocket down the left field line scoring Korcak and McGee. The Dolphins scored again in the third inning after Redfern reached on an error scoring Korcak from third. Campbell scored their only runs of the game from back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the third off JU starter Dobson. Dobson threw a complete game three-hitter for her ninth win of the season.
Senior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) suffered the loss for JU in game one, despite allowing just one earned run on three hits and striking out five. The Dolphins managed four hits and left four runners on base in the first game.
JU travels to play Winthrop on Monday April 5 in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
