ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior centerfielder Monica McGee (Starke, Fla.) went 4-for-7 with a triple, but it wasn't enough as JU softball was swept by Winthrop, 4-2 and 5-1, in doubleheader at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C. on Monday afternoon. Winthrop (28-16-1) pounded out 19 hits in the two games off the Dolphin pitching staff, while JU (15-34, 4-8 A-Sun) stranded 13 runners on base.

Winthrop scored four runs on 11 hits in game one. JU righthander Katie Buell (Alpharettea, Ga.) suffered the loss allowing four runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings of work. Junior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) struck out two batters in one inning of relief. JU managed two runs in the top of the third inning. An RBI single by junior first baseman Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) scored the Dolphins' first run. McGee scored a batter later when she stole third and the throw by Eagles catcher Sarah Conrad went into left field.

The game was scoreless in game two when Winthrop scored five-runs on five hits in the second inning off sophomore righthander Katie Dobson (Clearwater, Fla.). McGee led all Dolphin hitters going 3-for-4 with her first triple of the season. The Dolphins scored their lone run in the seventh inning when leadoff hitter junior Jamie Ross (Shoreline, Wash.) reached on a three base error by second baseman Katie Kipisz. Ross scored on a RBI single by sophomore catcher Janine Palumbo (Palm Harbor, Fla.).

JU travels to play Stetson this Saturday in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
