Final Stats

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior righthander Stacey Bell (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) threw a complete-game eight-hitter, while senior shortstop Dianna Korcak (Clearwater, Fla.) picked up her 14th triple of the season as JU split a doubleheader with Belmont, 6-3 and 5-3, on senior day Friday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex. The Dolphins (18-37, 5-11 A-Sun) won game one, 6-3, behind the complete-game pitching effort of Bell who allowed three runs on eight hits. The Bruins (15-26, 2-12 A-Sun) won game two behind a five run six-hit fifth inning off JU freshman righthander Katie Buell (Alpharetta, Ga.). Korcak picked up her 14th triple in game two to stay at top of the Atlantic Sun standings.

In game one, the Dolphins came out swinging in the first inning to get two runs on three hits for the early 2-0 lead. Junior Mayte Diaz (Silver Springs, Fla.) picked an RBI in the inning when she singled to left field scoring senior center fielder Monica McGee (Starke, Fla.) from third. Belmont would answer in the top of the second with two runs of their own from a Julie Castelli double scoring two Bruin runners. The Dolphins broke the 2-2 tie in the fifth, when Diaz doubled to left field scoring two JU runners. Senior third baseman Sonja Cadarette (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) singled in the sixth inning scoring two runners and putting the victory away for the Dolphins. Cadarette and Diaz each had three RBI apiece in game one. Bell allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out seven batters in the complete-game win.

Belmont took game two behind a five run six-hit fifth inning for their second conference win of the season. Belmont's Kelly Major leads off the fifth inning with a home run off JU starter Buell. Buell had not allowed a run in 9.0 innings before the homer. Buell suffered the loss in game two allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out four batters. JU scored in the bottom of the inning when Korcak belted a triple to center field scoring junior right fielder Jamie Ross (Shoreline, Wash.) from first. The Dolphins scored another run in the seventh from a two-out single by junior first baseman Lauren Redfern (Jacksonville/Sandalwood), but Belmont squashed the late rally.

JU returns to action at home on Wednesday April 21 in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader against Troy State starting at 2:00 p.m.
