JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University softball team earned a program-best No. 11 national ranking on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic list for the 2005-06 school year, it was announced today by NFCA.org.

The Dolphins posted a 3.393 GPA to earn a spot on the list for the fourth consecutive year.

"This recognition is just another example of how hard the players work off the field," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "I think this shows their dedication to be more in life than just an athlete. I am extremely proud of their hard work and take great pride in their accomplishment.

"I would like to thank Jacksonville University and the support staff for all of their individual contributions in helping the student athletes to become more than they thought they could be."

The Dolphins also have had 22 players earn NCFA scholar-athlete honors and ranked in the top 60th nationally since its inception in 2003.

JU is joined on the top 20 with Atlantic Sun foes Gardner-Webb (seventh) and North Florida (14th).

The Dolphins open the 2007 season on Friday, Feb. 9 against Minnesota at the JU Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
