Softball battles North Florida in SunTrust River City Rumble on Friday

April 5, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU softball team will host Atlantic Sun Conference and cross town rival North Florida for its most important doubleheader of the season on Friday at JU Softball Complex beginning at 6 p.m.

Not only will the Dolphins (13-30, 2-4 A-Sun) be looking to gain some ground in the conference standings against the Ospreys (25-16, 3-3 A-Sun), but they will also try to earn two key points in the standings for the second annual SunTrust River City Rumble between the two schools.

"This doubleheader is very important as we battle for a spot in the conference tournament," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "This is becoming an intense rivalry between the schools, but our team needs to keep their emotions in check because we have to stay focused on the bigger picture of the season goals."

Last season, the Ospreys used a tenth inning walk-off home run in game one and recorded a 5-1 win in the second game to sweep the Dolphins in their first-ever meeting.

JU enters Friday night's contest after sweeping a doubleheader against Florida A&M, 11-3 (6) & 7-1, last night in Tallahassee, Fla.

Sophomore Alexis Novak drove in four runs during the doubleheader, while Ashley Iveson and Katie Buell each picked up a win in their respective starts. Junior Shannon Jensen tallied two RBI and earned a save in the circle in game one.

North Florida heads to the JU campus after splitting a doubleheader with Belmont on March 31 in Nashville, Tenn.
