Women's cross country places at Mountain Dew Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Complete Collegiate Women's Results

Freshman Anastasia Fokina led the JU women's cross country team for the second consecutive week as the Dolphins competed in their first 5k race of the season at the Mountain Dew Invitational, Friday evening on The University of Florida Golf Course.

The meet consisted of 21 schools from the state of Florida including Central Florida, Embry-Riddle, Flagler, Florida, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Miami, North Florida, Nova Southeastern, Pasco-Hernando CC, Rollins, Saint Leo, South Florida, Stetson, Tampa, Warner, Southern, Webber and West Florida.

Fokina, who finished second at the JU Short Course Duals to open the 2007 season, finished 36th with a time of 20:02.91. Sophomore Alison Ritter also had a top 50 finish by placing 48th with a mark of 20:25.79. Sophomore Tiffanie Saxton (63rd - 20:43.79) and junior Janel Grooms (88th - 21:21.49) also placed for the Dolphins. Sophomore Alyssa Deal did not finish the race due to injury, which prevented the Dolphins from receiving a team score with at least five competitors.

The JU women's and men's squad will return to action in the JU/UNF Cross Country Relays on Sept. 14 on the North Florida campus.
