Emese Sulyos Earns ITA Regional Ranking For Women's Tennis

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University freshman Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) has earned the No. 22 singles ranking in the South region for the fall 2003 season in the latest International Tennis Association poll. Sulyos finished the fall season with a record of 7-2 and advanced to the finals of the Hastings Memorial/JU Invitational, winning four matches before the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.
At the Hastings Memorial/JU Invitational, Sulyos' biggest win came in the semifinals where she defeated reigning A-Sun Player of the Year Alena Dvorakova of Florida Atlantic, 6-4, 6-2. Sulyos also had a strong showing at the Lady Seminole Invitational in November, reaching the semifinals before falling to Anca Dumitrescu of Florida State, who is ranked No. 10 in the South region.
The JU women's tennis team opens it spring season at USF on Jan. 23rd at 1 p.m.
