Men's and Women's Tennis Sweep Mercer

Men's and women's tennis teams swept Mercer on Saturday afternoon at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex, with the men winning, 6-1 and the No. 75 women taking a 4-3 win. The men improve to 3-5 overall, while the women remain undefeated at 4-0. Both teams are 2-0 in conference play.

Ben Birkmann (Bremen, Germany) and Christoph Mueller (Waldsassen, Germany) started the day with a win at No. 1 doubles, while Martin Hehensteiger (Schechen, Germany) and Peter Sehgal (Cincinatti, Ohio) took a victory at No. 2 doubles to give the Dolphins the doubles point. JU took 5-of-6 singles matches, losing only at No. 4 singles.

Meanwhile, Emese Sulyos (Szolnok, Hungary) and Veronika Subertova (Bratislava, Slovakia) took the women's No. 1 doubles, but JU dropped the doubles point to Mercer. Sulyos and Subertova rallied the Dolphins in singles play, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Nisrine Hajbane (Casablanca, Morocco) won at No. 4 singles and Kristina Puck (Hamburg, Germany) took No. 5 singles to keep the Dolphins undefeated in dual play.

The JU women play tomorrow against Florida A&M at 11 a.m. at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex, while the men return to action March 6 when they host Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m.
